For his contribution, as CEO of Telefónica, to the digitalisation of Spain’s society and economy, and for his exemplary leadership in transforming the business model of an iconic Spanish company. He joined Telefónica in 1999, and under his management, the company has been recognised as the most admired telecommunications operator in Europe and the third in the world, according to Fortune magazine He has also contributed to the development of 5G in Spain, which he defines as a ‘golden opportunity’ for our country to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
