Francisco Mojica

For being one of the most reputable Spanish scientists in the world, specifically in the field of microbiology. Recognized for his early contributions (1993) describing CRISPR repeated sequences in archaea and their role in the immune mechanisms of prokaryotic cells, he later crystallized his discoveries with development of CRISPR-Cas technology. He is a full professor in the Department of Physiology, Genetics and Microbiology at the University of Alicante.
