Diego González Rivas

A surgeon and pioneer of video-assisted thoracic surgery with a minimal incision, he has operated in over 100 countries and leads the video thoracic surgery programme at the Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital. In 2019, he was honoured in China with the National Medicine Award in the category of Innovation and Cutting-Edge Techniques, becoming the first foreigner to receive this accolade. A member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, he has treated underserved individuals worldwide through the Diego González Rivas Foundation.
